The current design discourse is still dominated by the Eurocentric way of looking at and acting in the world. This evening makers share their vision of the designed world and their contribution to this change. Over time, the amount of perspectives, insights and imaginations will grow.

Sühyela Yalcin
Süheyla is the founder of the cross-media platform NederTurk. A collection and archiving of oral history at the crossroads of Dutch and Turkish identity. She is also a producer at the production house FUFU&DADELS, within this collective the forgotten voices of women's emancipation are central. As editor-in-chief and producer, Sūheyla is involved in the execution and presentation of the audio productions. As a presenter she is involved in Movies That Matter, Leiden Short Festival and Het Landelijk Knooppunt Communicatiedwang & Achterlating. As a columnist, Süheyla provides columns to off- and online media channels such as VICE, LINDA girls, De Kantdrawing and One World. From 2022. In 2022 Süheyla has been appointed as general director of MAMA Rotterdam, a platform for visual culture and young talent.
The Black Archives
The Black Archives is a unique historical archive for inspiring conversations, activities and literature from Black and other perspectives that are often overlooked elsewhere. The Black Archives documents the history of black emancipation movements and individuals in the Netherlands. The Black Archives is managed by the New Urban Collective.
The Black Archives consists of unique book collections, archives and artifacts that are the legacy of Black Dutch writers and scientists. The more than 10.000 books in the collections focus on racism and race issues, slavery and (the) colonization, gender and feminism, social sciences and development, Suriname, the Netherlands Antilles, South America, Africa and more.
As a result, The Black Archives provides book collections and literature which are not or little discussed in schools and within universities. The collections are intended as a start collection that can grow by gifts and collaborations with others. In this way, Black literature, knowledge and information is made accessible for study and research. Based on the collections we develop exhibitions, public programmes and other educational and inspirational activities.

The Black Archives
The Black Archives is een historisch archief en cultureel centrum waar mensen terecht kunnen voor inspirerende gesprekken, inhoudelijke activiteiten en boeken vanuit zwarte en andere perspectieven die elders vaak onderbelicht blijven. The Black Archives wordt gedragen door de organisatie New Urban Collective.
The Black Archives bestaat uit verschillende boekencollecties, archieven en artefacten die het nalatenschap zijn van zwarte schrijvers en wetenschappers. De meer dan 10.000 aanwezige boeken in de collecties gaan over racisme, slavernij en (de)kolonisatie, gender en feminisme, sociale wetenschappen, Suriname, de voormalig Nederlandse Antillen, Zuid-Amerika, Afrika en meer.
Hierdoor bieden de collecties literatuur die niet of weinig besproken wordt binnen scholen en universiteiten. De collecties zijn bedoeld als startcollectie die kan groeien door giften en samenwerkingen met anderen. Zo wordt Zwarte literatuur, kennis en informatie toegankelijk gemaakt. Op basis van de collecties worden exposities ontwikkeld, events georganiseerd en lezingen en advies gegeven.
